Speed
Verb + 过 says you have had that experience at some point in your life. It is not about a particular time.
It is very common in questions: 你去过中国吗?

- 不能带具体时间:我昨天去过 ✗ → 我昨天去了 ✓
- 否定用「没」:我没去过中国。
