Who runs this
Hi, I'm Yang Maojuan Dàshū(羊毛卷大叔), a software developer, parent, and independent project builder based in China.
I work on my own projects, mainly focused on education and learning. I created NihaoLearn to make learning Chinese more accessible and convenient for people around the world.
My goal is to build a practical, user-friendly resource that helps learners take small steps toward understanding and using Chinese in their daily lives.
There is no company behind the site, no ads, and no tracking beyond a cookie-free visit counter — it exists because the tools I wanted while learning Chinese were scattered across apps, paywalls and dead links.
Corrections, questions and feature requests all go to the contact page; mistakes in the data usually get fixed in the next build.
Where the data comes from
| What | Source | Licence |
|---|---|---|
| Characters, stroke order, radicals | Unihan + Make Me a Hanzi | open (see each project) |
| Definitions, pinyin, parts of speech | CC-CEDICT | CC BY-SA 4.0 |
| HSK word lists (3.0 and 2.0) | official standard vocabularies, compiled by us | free to reuse |
| Example sentences | Tatoeba + our own | CC BY 2.0 FR (Tatoeba) |
| Readings and sentence patterns | written for this site | free to reuse with attribution |
| Audio (29,257 clips) | synthesised with Aliyun NLS (voice aiqi), hosted on Cloudflare R2 | ours to serve |
The word lists themselves are downloadable at /resources, and every reading states how much of it stays inside its HSK level (the grading is checked automatically at build time).
Your data stays yours
The site is static files on Cloudflare's edge: there is no application server holding your study list. Your words, review schedule, practice history, typing stats and pronunciation scores live in this browser's local storage — clearing site data resets them.
An account is optional and only used to sync those lists between your devices, plus a subscription if one is ever added. You can download everything we hold and delete the account and its data from the account page; the details are in the privacy note.
For teachers
The graded readings, the printable worksheet maker, the tone trainer and the shadowing scorer are all free to use in class — no signup, works on phones and projectors. If a resource list on your course page would find them useful, linking to them is welcome.
