把
Doing something to a specific object
HSK 3 · 4 examples
Speed
把 moves the object in front of the verb when the action changes it, moves it, or deals with it completely. The object has to be something specific — a particular book, your homework — not 'books in general'.
The verb also needs an ending or a result after it: 了 / 完 / 好 / 在 / 给…… That is why 我把书看 is impossible but 我把书看完了 is fine.
Examples
。
I put the book on the desk.
。
Please open the window.
。
He finished his homework.
。
Don't break the cup.
Watch out
- Don't use 把 with verbs that don't change anything: 看见、喜欢、是.
- Negation and 别 go before 把: 我没把门关上。
